Culprit Culler
A downloadable Clothing Culler Tool
What it does
Culprit Culler for Unity is a free all in one tool to cull polygons of your character that poke through clothes or wearables.
How to use it
Your unclothed character along with every garment has to be one 3D model file.
The character can even have multiple t-shirts, hats, pants, shoes, gloves or anything overlapping over each other in Blender. This tool basically allows each item to store a list of face indices that are supposed to be hidden while a specific garment item is an active gameobject in your scene.
This package includes a tutorial video that can also be found on YouTube where I showcase the capabilities of the tool!
Why it's better than paid alternatives
It's a simple folder containing only 3 scripts in total so it doesn't conflict with any other assets you might have imported into your Project. The code is clean and short therefore easy to modify and expand upon. It isn't overcomplicated with weird Layer or Tag relations, you paint the faces that are supposed to be hidden by the given clothing item in Blender, copy the indices into Unity and those parts of the character remain hidden as long as that clothing item is active. Once the item is inactive the underlying skin becomes visible again. This tool also works with all Render pipelines and versions.
What games is it good for
It's most suitable for games where players can assemble their unique outfit dynamically with clothing slots (shoes, pants, t-shirts, hats) like GTA IV or Saint Row II. This technology will also be used in Playhouse Culprit 2 the upcoming sequel of my open world game I made a while ago so stay tuned :)
